Special Grant Awarded to Trans Allies on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia

27/05/2026

A wonderfully celebratory event took place yesterday, May 17th, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. The creators of the book The Trans Child: A Handbook for Families and Professionals presented Trans Allies with a donation of 500,000 ISK, which constitutes the proceeds from the book's publication.

Birna Björg Guðmundsdóttir, chairperson of Trans Allies, accepted the grant on behalf of the organization. Presenting the donation were the book's creators: Trausti Steinsson, teacher; Þorgerður Einarsdóttir, professor of Gender Studies at the University of Iceland; and Svandís Anna Sigurðardóttir, expert in queer and equality affairs at the City of Reykjavík’s Human Rights and Democracy Office.

Trans Allies will utilize this grant to fund translations and the publication of literature tailored for trans children and youth.

New Brochure Published on Trans Children in Sports A new brochure focusing on trans children’s participation in sports has been published. In recent years, a significant number of children of all ages have come out as trans. It is vital to ensure this group has proper access to sports, that they are warmly welcomed, and that their unique needs are met.

The brochure is intended to provide information for parents, coaches, and others involved in sports management. It was developed in collaboration with Samtökin ’78 (The National Queer Organization), Trans Ísland, and Trans Allies, among others.

Primarily serving as a guide, the brochure focuses on children up to the age of 12, or prior to puberty. Physical copies can be obtained at the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland (ÍSÍ) offices, and a digital version is available on the ÍSÍ website.
